Anamnesis: A Film by Randall Dunn & Mark Dorf

The Blank Mag, in collaboration with Kou Records, presents the premiere of Anamnesis, a new audio-visual work from producer and composer Randall Dunn and visual artist Mark Dorf.

Remembrance or retrieval

Anamnesis moves through landscapes that do not exist on any map. Deep red mountains, blackened polygons rendered visible only through reflected light, photonic streaks ripping through space, and land imagined through machine learning. These spaces derived through psychological experience reflect not the geography of place, but rather the mapping of unease; something felt but not named. The music in this film is intended to make us think of how much we externalize ourselves. It is set forth as a meditation on an esoteric space within. In conjunction with the images, the music grounds us through the eternal return of the journey. To see remembrance as an act more detailed than recollection, and to differentiate that from the act of digital retrieval.
